Leadership Training in multi-focus processes for Social Change in Latin America

Key learnings:

There is a great deal of effort involved in any collaborative project. A lot of time and effective communication between the stakeholders and facilitators is needed at the beginning to clearly establish the goals and timetables for the project.

In launching such a project the stakeholders need to be very clear on what time is involved and how that relates to the time commitments they already having in their agendas.

Even though the initial stages in getting the project up and running has been a bit sloppy, with persistence the project has begun with initial positive response on part of the participants. We have a framework of a container for on-going capacity building that includes face to face gatherings and a web site blog.

Key process elements:

We are using the Theory U as a nucleus within a Reos partners Change Lab framework, analysis of systems, future scenario building, embodiment and social presencing theater. Both Reos and PI facilitators are contributing to the project.

Success looks like:

A core group of participants, including members of the Maryknoll Center leadership teams,  truly capture and are trained in how to effectively facilitate processes using these methodologies such at the TU, scenario building, …

The sponsoring institutions (UNDP, Avina, Idea, Maryknoll Center, Democratic Dialogue) have built a network of collaboration in sharing expertise and learnings in processes of social and institutional changes each is involved in.

From my point of view, this project success is gaged by how it has provided an opportunity for the PI community in LA to be more present and active in the region in collaboration with organizations that have a wide outreach for promoting innovative leadership throughout the continent..

Help needed:

At present the project is supported by each of the sponsoring institutions and the Reos and PI consulting services, but it needs more experienced practitioners from LA  in the TU methodologies in its various dimensions—peer coaching experience, presencing social theater, embodiment, prototyping, etc…. It also needs a more constant financial sustainability.

Big idea:

To build a network throughout Latin America of partner institutions of mutual support involved in social change activities that would share a core group of trained practioners in processes such as scenario building and the Process U to bring about social change among multi stakeholders.
