Leadership for Managing Global Governance
How to best develop global leadership approaches for capacity buiding programmes for a cross-sectoral and cross-cultural group and then to re-contextualize it again to the specific contexts in the regions and sectors has been one of the major challenges. With participants from China, India, Pakistan, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Egypt and Indonesia this has been a very rich learning experience.Often it all comes down to the very basics such as how we listen, communicate and cooperate with each other, and how we create trustful relationships and containers for learning.
How to develop innovative solutions in traditional and hierarchical settings such as in big international organisations and the government have been another big challenge. Here, to find the bricks in the walls and the places of most potential for learning and deep change have been helpful approaches, as well as prototyping all over again and again.
The flexibility to constantly adapt the programme and to be open to listen what needs to be addressed right now have been helpful attitudes, both by the trainers and by the managing organisations. Here, the close and trustful cooperation with all the key stakeholders involved has been key.
The Leadership and Facilitating Sustainable Programme is part of a 5 months programme called Managing Global Governance/MGG (conducted in Germany and Europe every year since 2004). It has e-learning modules, 4 onsite training sessions (incl. retreats), individual coachings, and supportive supervision and coaching opportunities once the emerging leaders return to their home institutions to further develop and implement their change projects.
The whole MGG programme consists of several stakeholders such as leading tri-sectoral partner institutions from emerging countries such as from governments, think tanks, universities, NGOs, business etc. from China, India, Pakistan, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Egypt and Indonesia, Ministries of the German Government, GIZ, and GDI .
Deep Dialogue Interviews with all participants in the begining of each programme helped to design and constantly adapt the whole programme according to the specific context of the emerging leaders and their organisations.
