Executive Leadership Development for NPOs

Key learnings:

The program is in very early stages of implementation still – 13 participants on the 1st programme are about to go on sensing journeys into their fields. They are all directors and senior managers in the Child & Youth Care and HIV/Aids sectors.

Key process elements:

Combination of personal leadership awareness, reflection, and new skills (Thinking Environment; Complexity and Chaos; Emergence) facilitated pro bono by various specialists in the executive leadership development field, with the U-process framework and tools. Inclusion of a 2-day wilderness-based solo retreat in the middle of the programme.

Success looks like:

A growing cohort of high quality civil society leaders, capable of guiding and decision-making in a future-oriented way.
Clearly communicable and appropriate changes effected in the organisations / sectors in which these leaders work.
Recognition of this programme nationally, and realisation of funding support to cover costs.

Help needed:

Assistance in developing a clear monitoring and evaluation system.
Funding (scholarships and support costs).

Big idea:

There is no leadership development training of any real kind targeted to civil society directors and senior managers in South Africa; we have an opportunity here to combine good leadership development with the ability to act from the future in service of society.
